One person's side project is
somone else's starting point.
Toss one in: when you sign up, submit an old project into the pool for someone else to remake or add on to. Then pick one up that someone else left behind, and continue it: remake it better, weirder, or with any twist! For example: A todo app, but it's also a synth..? A weather app that runs in a Game Boy..? (idk i ran outta ideas) When it's done, ship it and you'll get prizes!
faq
Who can join?
Anyone who's 13-18! It's a Hack Club You Ship, We Ship, so the usual YSWS eligibility rules apply. No experience needed: if you can open a code editor, you're qualified. If you're 19 or older, consider sending this to a friend or anyone you may know who fits the age range.
What counts as “better or with a twist”?
Anything that makes it meaningfully yours: new features, a total rewrite, a different platform, a funnier premise, actual hardware. Just changing the colors doesn't count ._.
Do I have to submit something to the pool first?
Yes, before you ship. You can start remaking right away, but one project of yours has to be approved into the pool before your remake can be submitted. The pool only works if everyone gives one back.
Can I remake the same project that someone else is already remaking?
Yes! Two people remaking the same thing in two wildly different directions is the best-case scenario.
Can I use AI to help?
A little! AI can make up to 30% of your project, but the major components have to be yours. You should be able to explain every part of what you shipped.
How do grants work?
Once your project is reviewed and approved, you pick the grant that fits your remake — AI credits, a domain, or hardware. Details are still being cooked. 🍳
submissions aren't open yet.
